You may have read my previous article 6 Quick Tips For A Beginners Blog where I wrote about some blogging basics and also the different reasons why people write their own blog.
There are all the awesome reasons like connecting with people, sharing your ideas, knowledge and experiences and getting your voice heard. The other cool thing is that you can also quite easily make some money along the way while you are writing about and doing what you love! Pretty awesome huh?
Personally I use WordPress for my blog as it was highly recommended to me, it’s easy to use and you have access to loads and loads of plugins that enable you to add all kinds of cool things to your website to make it look and work in a really professional and user friendly way. This is really important if you want people to enjoy visiting your site and spend any amount of time there looking around.
Below I have put together a list of 5 ways that you too can use, to make money from your blog.
1. Affiliate Programs
In a previous article that I wrote, What Is Affiliate Marketing?, I go a bit more into detail on how this works. There is a truly amazing number of affiliate programs and products out there that you can get involved in. As a brand new beginner however, it’s generally better to stick to one site/niche and become an expert in that area before moving on.
I myself started with the SFM which has been amazing as all the tools and training were included to get me from brand new starter to internet marketer in a matter of weeks. Brilliant stuff. I’d hate to think how long it would have taken me if I tried to do it all on my own!!
2. Adsense Ads
First of all you sign up for an account with Google Adsense and get it approved. Then you can log in and get a code that works similarly to an affiliate link and you can then add this code to your own site. When you add this code, Google can then automatically display ads in your sidebar, page or post. When visitors click on these ads, you will get paid for it.
The payout will depend on competition and demand and can be anywhere from $0.10 up to $10 -$25 per click.
There is even a plugin for your WordPress site you can use called ‘quick adsense’ to give you a bit more control over how they appear on your site.
3. List Building
Having your site visitors give you their email address allows you to build a list of subscribers who you can keep in contact with and make offers to that they may be interested in long after they first found you online.
It’s important to remember that these are all real people and only want to hear from you if you actually have something to offer that is of value to them.
So make sure you are clear about how you want to benefit or add value to these people’s lives and don’t purely see them as an opportunity to grab dollars as they will soon want to give you the flick, for good!
It’s also possible to make money by approaching companies directly and asking them if they would like to advertise on your site.
For this to be a viable option you really need to have some traffic and stats to show your potential advertisers and that’s possibly something that is going to take you a bit of time to establish.
Also make sure you only advertise for companies that are in line with your own beliefs and values as anything visitors find on your site will reflect on you personally.
5. Create Your Own Product
If you have a product already that you want to market or feel that you are ready to create your own product that’s fantastic! There are some more advanced programs within the SFM that can assist you through every step of the way to get that done.
As a complete newbie though, it’s probably easier to start with affiliate marketing and learn the basics first before you move on to creating products of your own.
I hope this helps you to get a better understanding of how you too can make yourself some money through your own blog.
Blogging is great fun, easy to do and you will learn so much along the way. You can even turn it into a whole new career without giving up what you are currently doing.
