Commanding the Universe and Other Unhinged Hacks That Work
After years of training, study, strategy, psychology and all the sensible technical stuff, I still have a few slightly unhinged things I do when I really want to create a particular outcome.
One of them is what I call commanding the universe.
Think She-Ra from Masters of the Universe, sword in the air, full “I’ve got the power” energy.
Who said growing up in the 80's was a bad thing?? lol
As dramatic as it sounds, there’s something very practical underneath it.
I used this recently with my book launch. A panelist cancelled, bookings were slower than I expected, and there were plenty of opportunities to start worrying about how the night might turn out.
Instead, I made a clear decision:
This is going to be an incredible night.
From there, I focused on what supported that outcome. I kept inviting, promoting, preparing and creating the experience I wanted. In the final few days, the room filled and more than 40 people came.
That experience reinforced something important.
Once you decide what you want, your energy needs somewhere clear to go.
Where your energy goes matters
It’s easy to want one thing while giving huge amounts of attention to everything that could stop it from happening.
You might want more clients while thinking constantly about whether people will buy. You might want more visibility while worrying about who will judge you. You may have already made a decision and still keep reopening it because uncertainty feels uncomfortable.
That creates a split in your focus.
Part of your energy is moving towards what you want, while another part is preparing for what you don’t.
Congruence changes that.
Your thoughts, behaviour and decisions start supporting the same direction, which creates far more momentum than constantly negotiating with yourself.
Stop rehearsing the opposite outcome
There’s a point where thinking ahead is useful, and there’s a point where it becomes mental over-management.
Once you’ve assessed the risk and gathered the information you need, continuing to rehearse every possible problem keeps your attention attached to outcomes you have no interest in creating.
A better question is:
What would support the result I’m creating now?
That might mean making the call, following up, changing the strategy, having the conversation or finally making the decision you’ve been circling around for too long.
Your brain is far more useful when you give it a clear problem to solve.
Give yourself permission to choose
A lot of energy also gets lost when you’re still checking whether other people approve of what you want.
The goal might feel too ambitious. Someone else may not understand the decision. Becoming more visible, earning more or changing direction might bring up discomfort around what people will think.
At some point, you need your own permission.
That’s personal authority.
You get to decide what you want to create and then bring your energy into alignment with that choice.
Stay committed without gripping the outcome
Non-attachment is the other part of this.
You can be deeply committed to what you want while staying open about how it comes together.
When you become attached to one exact route, every delay starts to feel significant and every setback can make you question the whole thing.
A clear outcome with a flexible pathway gives you room to respond, adjust and keep moving.
That’s the power of commanding the universe.
Decide what you’re creating. Put your energy behind it. Stay open about the route.
Then notice how much less energy gets wasted on everything you don’t actually want.
What would change if you decided what you’re creating and stopped entertaining everything that says otherwise?
That's what I'm exploring in this week's episode of The Coaching Circle Podcast.

Because creating what you want isn't just about having a vision.
It's about becoming congruent with it and directing your energy towards it.
I'd love to hear what resonates with you.
