How Your Nervous System Controls the Speed of Your Business Results
Your business will only move as fast as your nervous system allows it to.
Think about it, you can have the clearest plan, the best strategy and the most beautifully designed offers, but if your body doesn’t feel safe to let it all in, things will stall. The way your nervous system responds to change - whether it feels open, cautious, or resistant, directly controls the speed of your results.
Nervous System States and Business Speed
Your nervous system has three main responses to change:
Open to change: You feel receptive, safe, and supported. Things flow easily, opportunities seem to appear from nowhere and results land quickly.
Arrested to change: You feel cautious, like you’re testing the waters. It’s not a full “no,” but progress is slower because your system is double checking if it’s safe.
Closed to change: You feel resistant and protective. Even if you’re putting in lots of effort, results stall or disappear altogether.
I’ve seen this play out countless times with clients. One client had been preparing to launch a new program but felt anxious about whether it was good enough and anyone would sign up. After a coaching session, she shifted into a state of safety and openness. That very afternoon, 2 clients booked in and paid before she had even officially launched. Results landed quickly because she felt safe to receive.
Why Trusting Yourself Creates Speed
When your nervous system feels safe, it tells you: “I can handle this.” That’s when results move faster.
A product based business owner I worked with experienced this in a big way. Out of the blue, she was invited to provide products for over 100 gift bags at a high profile event. The opportunity came without her chasing it, simply because she was in a state of trust and openness.
These kinds of shifts don’t happen because you’re “lucky.” They happen because your system believes you can handle the expansion. And when you hold that trust, opportunities often show up faster than you expected.
When Safety Is Missing
The same principle works in reverse.
One client admitted she was secretly hoping people would cancel sessions because she felt exhausted and unable to manage her workload. And that is exactly what happened.
When your nervous system says “this isn’t safe,” your business reflects it. Results slow down, clients hesitate and opportunities disappear. It’s not sabotage, it’s your system trying to protect you.
The Ego’s Rules That Hold You Back
Your unconscious mind loves certainty. It creates rules about how things “should” happen, and those rules act like brakes.
Some common ones are:
Success has to be slow and hard earned.
If I grow too fast, people will judge me.
I won’t be able to handle more clients or more money.
If I succeed, I’ll lose connection with the people I care about.
When your goals don’t fit these rules, your nervous system slows things down to keep you safe. That’s why you might feel like you’re doing everything right, but progress still feels stuck.
Why Fixating on the “How” Slows You Down
Another hidden brake is obsessing over how results must happen.
Clients don’t always come through the perfect funnel. Sometimes they show up because of a podcast, a social post you forgot about, a referral, or even a casual conversation.
The more you try to force results to come through one exact pathway, the more your nervous system contracts. But when you stay open to possibilities, opportunities flow in from directions you didn’t even plan for.
The Gatekeeper of Speed
Your nervous system is the gatekeeper of speed in your business. When it feels safe, things move quickly. When it doesn’t, the brakes come on.
The key is to open up those rigid rules, trust yourself to handle what comes in, and release the need to control every detail of how results arrive. That’s when results can land instantly, often from places you least expect.
Opportunities are already moving toward you. The real question is: are you open to receive them now, or are you slowing them down?
