The Identity Shift Your Next Year Goals Requires
Why Deciding Who You Are Comes Before the Opportunities You Want
Every December, people start thinking about what they want next year to bring.
More clients.
More income.
More alignment.
More freedom.
More clarity.
A stronger sense of direction.
But there is one truth most people overlook. You cannot create new results with the identity that created this year.
Your identity is the engine behind your behaviour. And your behaviour is what shapes your outcomes. If you want 2026 to look different, you must decide to become someone different.
You do not wait for confidence.
You do not wait for clarity.
You do not wait for a sign.
Identity is a decision. And everything changes from that point forward.
Identity Comes Before Evidence
Most people wait for something external to give them permission.
They wait to feel ready. They wait for validation. They wait for an opportunity that proves they are capable.
But you do not grow into your identity. You choose it. Then your behaviour aligns with that choice.
If you want to be someone known in your industry, you choose that identity first. Then you behave like a leader, invest in yourself, learn, contribute to your field. You attend events and conferences, you get visible. You create your own intellectual property and thought leadership.
No one assigns you that role, you are the one who chooses to claim it.
Identity drives behaviour and behaviour drives opportunity.
What You Want Requires a New Version of You
You cannot hold more with the identity that was shaped by less and this is really important. Because every goal you set is first and foremost about who you need to become to achieve that goal.
The old version of you created this year’s results and nothing changes until you step into the version of you who can hold the reality you want next.
That identity will have:
• Higher standards
• Clearer boundaries
• More intentional time
• Better health practices
• Greater emotional regulation
• Cleaner relationships
• A stronger relationship with money
• More focused attention
• A higher energetic frequency
Identity is not just mindset, it is a set of standards that you hold yourself accountable to.
What You Let Go Of Matters as Much as What You Step Into
Stepping into a new identity means releasing what no longer belongs or supports where you’re going.
It means looking at:
• Habits that drain you
• People who do not support your vision
• Roles that belong to an old chapter
• Commitments that no longer feel aligned
• Time spent scrolling instead of creating
• Money patterns that do not match who you want to become
• Health habits that limit your energy and clarity
Stepping into expansion means mapping out exactly what that looks like in your day to day life and knowing that you get to choose. Nothing is fixed but your identity will evolve through both what you commit to and what you let go of.
Choosing Who You Will Be in 2026
As you move toward a new year, ask yourself:
• Who am I deciding to be?
• What identity matches the outcomes I want?
• What standards does that identity hold?
• What becomes non-negotiable?
• What becomes irrelevant?
Your 2026 will not be shaped by hope or luck, it will be shaped by the identity you choose today.
When you decide who you are, the opportunities that match that identity appear. You become someone who leads themselves and acts with clarity because you have a clear focus on what you want to achieve.
You become someone who steps into the year already aligned with what they are here to create.
Step into the Identity, take aligned action towards what you want and be open to the opportunities that present themselves.
That is the path to your next level.
