What You Need to Stop Carrying to Move Your Business Forward
If you've been following along with this series on The Turning Point Process™, you'll know that last week we explored the first step: Validate.
Because before we can change anything, we have to feel understood..
The reason so many patterns stay with us so long is because the underlying fear or pain we feel doesn't feel understood and so it becomes part of who we are rather than how we once felt.
This week, I want to talk about what comes next.
Release.
This is the step where people finally feel like they can stop protecting their old pain and put it down.
One of the things I've noticed after more than a decade of coaching business owners is how much responsibility people carry without even realising it.
It becomes so familiar that it just feels like part of life.
You feel responsible for keeping everyone happy and you worry about disappointing people.
You carefully think about how every decision might affect someone else and you replay conversations in your head.
You filter what you really want to say because you're trying to avoid someone having a negative reaction.
Eventually, it just feels normal and you might call it stress, overwhelm or even anxiety.
But underneath that is something much deeper.
A responsibility that was never yours in the first place.
Business has a fascinating way of bringing these patterns to the surface.
People often come to me believing they're struggling with visibility, sales, pricing or even just being consistent.
And as we start diving deeper, we usually discover something else.
They're carrying responsibility for what other people might think, whether someone says, carrying responsibility for another adult's emotions and ultimately carrying responsibility for keeping the peace.
And that's a very heavy way to build a business.
The way I see this show up is when you delay putting an offer out because you’re worried people will think you’re charging too much.
Or you avoid having an honest conversation with a client because you don't want to upset them.
You might continuously keep yourself busy because resting feels uncomfortable for some reason and you don’t really know why.
From the outside, these all might look like business or strategy challenges.
But underneath, it’s a pattern designed to keep other people comfortable and ultimately keep you safe.
Those lessons usually begin long before you ever start a business.
What have you been carrying that was never yours to begin with?
It's a simple question but it has a way of opening doors that many of us have never thought to walk through.
Have you unconsciously been carrying someone else's expectations or fear of disappointing people?
Perhaps you've been carrying responsibility for keeping everyone else comfortable while quietly putting your own needs to one side.
Whatever it is, there comes a point where you get to decide whether you want to keep carrying it.
Because the next level of your business won't come from carrying more.
It comes from creating space to lead, trust yourself and to become fully expressed in who you really are.
That's what this episode is really about.
I go much deeper into why these patterns develop, how they quietly shape our businesses, and the practical shift that allows us to finally put them down.
If you've ever found yourself wondering why business feels heavier than it should...
Or why you keep repeating patterns you thought you'd already worked through...
I think this conversation will resonate with you.
