Your Business Will Rise to the Standard You Hold

Your Business Will Rise to the Standard You Hold

There’s something I’ve noticed after years of working with business owners.

Most people don’t have a problem with knowing what to do.

They know they need to sell.

They know they need to market.

They know they need better systems.

They know they need to delegate.

And yet…

They’re still stuck.

So what’s really going on?

Often, it has very little to do with strategy.

It’s identity.

Because your business will only rise to the standard you hold yourself to.

Identity comes before mastery

When I first started my business, I knew I could be a great coach and trainer.

So I focused on becoming good at coaching.

But I was still thinking like a coach who had a business rather than a business owner.

Sales and marketing weren't priorities.

Systems weren't in place.

And my results reflected it.

Eventually, I had to decide:

If I wanted a different business, I had to become a different version of me.

Not after I got the result.

Before.

We often think we'll achieve the goal and then become the person capable of holding it.

But it works the other way around.

Identity comes before mastery.

You decide who you're becoming.

Then you start doing what that person would do.

I experienced this with video.

I was terrified of it when I started.

I could have decided, I'm just not good at video.

Instead, I decided I was going to become good at it.

So I kept doing it.

Again and again.

Eventually, something that once felt completely uncomfortable became normal.

The same applies to your business.

If you're telling yourself:

I'm not good at sales.

I'm not a marketing person.

I'm just a practitioner.

I'm not a leader.

You might want to ask yourself:

Is that actually a fact, or is it an identity I'm continuing to reinforce?

The standard you hold changes everything

And this isn't just about you.

The way you hold your clients affects how they show up.

The way you hold your team affects how they perform.

Clear expectations, boundaries, feedback and recognition give people something to rise to.

Because people often step into the identity they believe you see in them.

So here's the question:

Who would you need to become for the business you say you want to be the natural result?

What would you need to let go of?

What would you need to start expecting from yourself?

And what standard are you currently holding that no longer matches where you say you want to go?

Because sometimes the next level doesn't require another strategy.

It requires a new standard.

That's what I'm exploring in this week's episode of The Coaching Circle Podcast.
