Your Goals Require You to Expand Your Emotional Capacity

Your Goals Require You to Expand Your Emotional Capacity

I can assume with a fair amount of accuracy that right now you know what you need to do.

Whether that’s raising your prices, delegating, setting clear boundaries, creating more space in your week or even receiving greater support.

So why can it still feel so difficult to actually do those things?

Because the thing standing between you and your next goal isn't just a lack of strategy.

It's your capacity to hold what you're asking for.

Your Goals Ask You to Become Someone New

We tend to think about goals in terms of what we need to do to achieve them.

But every goal also asks something of who we need to be.

More money requires you to become comfortable receiving more.

More support requires you to stop believing everything has to be done by you.

Clear boundaries require you to tolerate someone being disappointed with you.

Greater freedom requires you to stop using busyness as proof that you're valuable.

And this is where things can get uncomfortable.

Because you can know exactly what to do and still find yourself repeating the same patterns.

You know you need to delegate, but keep taking on responsibility for doing tasks that you believe no one else will do like you.

You know you need to raise your prices, but feel uncomfortable when someone says no and you make that mean no one will pay what you want.

You can know you need clear boundaries, but struggle to follow through when someone pushes back.

Knowing isn't always the problem.

Your current way of operating simply feels safer because it's familiar.

Your Emotional Capacity Matters

Your nervous system has learned what is acceptable, what is safe, and what keeps you connected to the people and circumstances around you.

So when you start doing something different, it feels uncomfortable.

Even when the different thing is exactly what you want.

I saw this with a client recently who was selling a $3,000 offer but felt uncomfortable asking people to invest at that level. Her perception was that people weren’t willing to invest that much.

Instead of simply trying to convince her to sell harder, we created a $10,000 offer.

The higher offer wasn't to become her core offer to sell, It was to expand what she believed was possible and to create an offer that was aligned for people who wanted the higher end of what she could offer.

And suddenly, $3,000 didn’t feel expensive.

Her perspective changed.

Her capacity changed.

Before our session had even finished, she received an inquiry that led to a sale.

That's what can happen when you stop looking only at the strategy and start looking at what is happening underneath it.

What Is Your Next Level Asking You to Become?

Because your next level isn't just asking you to do more.

It's asking you to become someone who can create, receive and sustain what you're asking for.

And that means letting go of the version of you that needed things to stay the way they've always been.

The version of you that needed to do everything.

The version of you that stayed busy to feel safe.

The version of you that struggled to receive.

That’s why it’s so important to know that your goal isn't just something you achieve.

It's something you need to become capable of holding.

So ask yourself:

What am I asking for that I'm not yet emotionally ready to hold?

And even more importantly:

What parts of me do I need to express so I can be the version of me who can hold it?

That's the work.

Because your business can only expand as far as you're willing and able to expand with it.
